EAFTC hosted the Fire Service Managers Seminar at the Hilton Hotel
With a full programme the two day event was a huge success.

Day 1 – Speakers
Colin Murray, Airport Fire Manager welcomed delegates and opened the days events followed by a Key Note address by Edinburgh Airports Managing Director
Kevin Brown. Before coffee representative from the CAA Sarah Doherty, Head of Strategy & Standards and Simon Webb, Aerodrome Standards Officer delivered the CAA Industry Updates which are leading the UK aerodrome policy-making initiatives Responsible for setting strategic aims for the BAA Rescue and Fire Fighting Service, Graeme Day BAA Fire Service Compliance Manager continued with the Fire Appliance Vehicle Roll-over Group.
After a buffet lunch Chief Chemist Dr Jan-Erik Jonsson and Dr Ram Gupta focused on foam concentrates for civil aviation and the development of new types of product with less environmental impact. The afternoon session concluded with leading figures presenting on recent aircraft incidents. Gerard Harvey, Chief of Airport Police Fire Officer was speaking on the recent crash involving a Fairchild Metroliner at Cork Airport. Han van den Broek Airport Manager Airport Operations and Ger Raven Senior Airport Fire Officer Fire Brigade Amsterdam Schiphol Airport presented on the crash of the Turkish Airlines TK1952
Day 2 – Speakers
The consolidation Report for the GB Fire and Rescue Service based on the eight inspections completed by the HSE - Speaker Kanwal Kanda, HM Inspectorate of Health & Safety has conducted and been involved in numerous fatal accident investigations including recent investigations into fire-fighter fatalities.. Fire and Rescue Service Incident Command – Speaker Peter Stanley on Incident Command. After coffee it was Witness Familiarisation with Andy Smith with the Witness Experience, involved in the criminal justice sector assisting in preparing for a Fatal Accident Inquiry following a multi fatal aircraft accident and all aspects of Witness preparation skills, Accident Investigation, report writing. After lunch Sandy Baptie, Training & Exercise Programme Manager Lothian & Borders Strategic Coordinating Group on Emergency Planning and Resilience (an airports involvement).
There was an opportunity for delegates to question a select industry panel through a formal question and answer session on the topics covered over the course of the 2 day event.
